A year ago I had this intense feeling of wanting to run away. At that time, like a sign I should go, the Erasmus lists at my University opened for the 2nd time with some openins and I decided: this is it! That same day I had a heart to heart conversation with my other half and I told him I was feeling sad with my studies, being at home and all that, and that i needed to leave for a while, move to a new country for a few months and I asked him a seriously hard question (cause I though he would think I was stupid for wanting this):
"would you come with me?"
It kinda hit me as a surprise but he said "yes" since he was also experiencing the same feeling as myself of looking for something different and far away from where everything seemed to be going wrong. So, together, we made the decision between Lugano (Switzerland) and Rome (Italy). The decision came quite naturally as he had family living in Lugano, so we thought it would be easier to move to a country where someone could help us with the basics and in case of emergency or something.
Not that many days later i found out I WAS ACCEPTED at Università della Svizzera Italiana (Lugano) - the news came out while I was in class, so you can imagine how hard it was for me to control my excitement when I saw my name on that list!!
From that day until the day I actualy traveled to Switzerland it was a process. From a million confusing things I had to take care: paper work at my home university, passport, vaccines, packing (which included buying stuff in Portugal because in Switzerland everything was ridiculously expensive), getting a new MB card, reservation of flights, dealing with having no home even on the day I went, my parents totally stressing out, ME TOTALLY STRESSING OUT and a million things that went before the big day.
All I know is that I don't regret going, and that i'm more than happy I did it, because most people thought I would give up last minute, chicken out for this being such a huge life change. But well, I didn't! I WENT!
And it was the experience of a lifetime
