Let me explain why I'm writing this ridiculous post: after 3 months living in Switzerland, counting every cent of my money so I could save some (not an easy task once you're living in a very expensive country like Switzerland), I arrived in Rome, where I stayed for 6 days total. As you can imagine, I immediately fell in love with this city, but my real problem was the Indian gift shops. I'll explain...
I always love the things you can buy in other countries like postcards, maps, key chains, miniatures, shirts and sweatshirts or those things you put on the fridge door. As I was in Lugano i couldn't buy any of that, all I did was look at the price and automatically feel sad cause things were too expensive. And then...ROME! Have you ever been to Rome? If you have, you know what I'm talking about! Indians selling things EVERYWHERE!! Every corner there's an Indian gift shop, but they don't need corners or shops cause they are on the streets and even come after you to get you to buy their stuff..
I started convicted and saying "I can't" but as days gone buy I was starting to go crazy cause everything was so CHEAP that I got to the point where I thought "why can't I buy just 1 or 2 things?" Yup...Disaster train rack! It only took one thing to get me to buy all bunch of things I didn't even need. It was something like this:
"I'll just get this miniature. I need something to remember I was in Rome" = bought 2 of those miniatures + 1 magnet to the fridge door.
"I'll just get in to look for something for my friend's birthday" = got FIVE key chains and a ball with snow inside (I believe I didn't get anything else thanks to my boyfriend who started to say I was getting crazy over that)
"OH, look! Postcards! We should buy one for each" = bought around 7 or 8 postcards + a Rosary for my mum

And I even bought a Sweatshirt saying "Università Roma" believing the Indian man was giving me a huge discount price...Oh and 2 books in Italian (no...i can't read Italian....)
Even though Rome was my financial disgrace, I love this city and so far nothing can compare to it. And I know I'll go back soon (but not soon enough).
