Should I feel guilty that I didn't feel home sick for the longest time while I was living in Switzerland?
Of course I had my days...once or twice I missed home, but not in the sentimental way...I missed Portugal because I realized how everything is cheap here compared to other countries! Yeah! I missed the freedom of just wanting to go for a drink or a coffee near the beach at the maximum price of 1€, compared to Switzerland where we never did that since it would be a waste of money to pay 3€ for a coffee when we could have it at home.
Pretty much all the time I lived in Lugano, I always felt like I was in the right place and maybe that's the reason I really didn't feel the need to come back to Portugal, since I was doing good as a clumsy housewife and speaking to people who didn't understand me and whom I didn't understand.
Oh yes, I guess I forgot to say but...I DIDN'T speak Italian...and they barely spoke any English...
Can't say life was good, cause everything was so expensive that our social lives had to stay low, but I was living by my choice and feeling good about it.
The day I felt homesick was at a Brazilian Party in a Brazilian bar, and people started talking about Portugal and how much they loved it, and guess what they mentioned...that's right...the famous PASTEIS DE NATA!! That reminded me of how AMAZING Pasteis de Nata are, and how long I hadn't eaten one of them..How stupid is that? I missed home because someone talked about some tipical food from my home country...
Eventually I got over it while I was in Switzerland, but one of the 1st things I did once I came back home was eat 2 Pasteis de Nata and it felt GREAT!
